The Midtown Greenway is a regional bike trail that runs East-West through Minneapolis. It is separated from the main roads, such as Lake Street, which is beneficial for safety, however, it means that people passing through on the trial must get off the trail and transition to unsafe streets to get other place, like businesses, school, or get a coffee on their ride.
This plan involves creating a mobility hub off the Midtown Greenway that serves as a connection and transfer point for multiple modes of transportation in an area that serves large retail, schools, and neighborhoods. The site consists currently of a street level section of the Greenway, an old railway that is not longer used, and a large industrial business building adjacent to it. The mobility hub would include a small cafe building that serves as a rest point and waiting area for both bicyclists, and pedestrians. There would be a secondary pathway that is off the Greenway to add additional separation from cyclists and pedestrians. There is an opportunity for a small play structure as well. The street running parallel to the site, E 27th Street, would also be re-imagined from the large unused street that is currently is, into a planted boulevard street
